Only a few people call me Alison without it being weird. But everyone calls me Ali.
Where do you go to school and what do you study?
I study Apparel Design and Merchandising at SF State. The program there is really growing.
Can you explain what got you into designing dresses?
I started sketching clothing when I was little. As I got older, it only made sense to actually learn how to sew. It's a great feeling when I've finished a piece - I feel like I've accomplished something.
I understand many artist get stuck in a phase where they lose inspiration to innovate, what helps you focus when you create your designs?
The thing that helps me focus on a design or a collection is the meaning behind it. Most of my pieces lately have been inspired by emotions and I try to portray that through silhouette, fabrication, and color.
Describe the dress shown , what does it mean to you?
At first glance it's a minimalistic design, but it has the capability to express a range of emotions - vulnerability, persistence, abstract.
What are your future goals for your designs?
My goal is to be a bridal designer. Of course, I'll want to do other fun projects, but I love weddings and the joy that it brings people.
